One of the most elegant features of Florence and the surrounding area is the abundance of stately, well maintained old houses. There’s an impressive pride of ownership in the historic structures. Florence, in particular, seems to cherish its old houses with more designated historic districts than any other municipality its size in the state. The only exception is Sweetwater Plantation which has been vandalized and neglected through the years.
